Teens & Students

Counseling Services

F&CS is the place to turn when your teen’s problems or, as a college student your problems, seem too overwhelming to handle alone.

Many teens struggle as their mind and bodies change, or after being given greater independence. Support from an F&CS therapist can help you and your teen gain a clearer perspective.

COUNSELING SERVICES FOR TEENS & STUDENTS WILL OFTEN RESPOND TO ISSUES RELATED TO:

  • Alcohol, drug use and/or experimentation
  • Bullying and/or social isolation
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Difficulty with loss or other life transitions
  • Gender identify and/or LGBTQ issues
  • Onset of mental illness
  • Relationship concerns and/or sex choices
  • Unhealthy body image social media habits

Open Doors

Open Doors provides services to youth up to age 21 who have runaway, are homeless or at-risk of either. When appropriate, the goal of the program is to reunify youth with their parents or care-takers and help them develop the skills needed to have healthy and supportive relationships.

Open Doors Services include:

  • Crisis services to teens that cannot go home
  • Case management
  • Short term host housing
  • Follow up counseling for teens and families

Psychiatry Services

F&CS offers psychiatry services to teens and students that are also receiving services in our counseling program.

Our psychiatrists work collaboratively with the clients and F&CS therapists to assess and, when needed, develop a pharmaceutical plan in response to a mental illness.

F&CS values its relationships with all local educational institutions and works collaboratively with Cornell University, and the Ithaca City School District to ensure our services are available when urgent needs arise.

Call today to make an appointment with a counselor at (607) 273-7494 during our hours of operation: Mon-Thu 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fr 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Your call will be directed to an intake professional who will match you with a compatible counselor based on your assessed needs.
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please dial 911 for immediate assistance.

Fees for service are reimbursable through Medicaid, Medicare, and private health insurance. This practice serves all patients regardless of ability to pay. Discounts for essential services are offered based on family size and income. We do so through generous support from the United Way support and private individual and corporate donations.
