Special Funds

Support Family & Children’s Service through a donation to a Special Fund

Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca is one of the oldest human service agencies in Tompkins County. Our origins date back to the establishment of the Ithaca Children’s Home in 1885, and the merger with the Family Society of Ithaca in 1958. Today, we continue to provide a wide range of services that include mental health care for children, adults, families, and seniors, as well as EAP services to more than 50 local businesses, and targeted outreach to vulnerable youth and other community members in need of support.

You can support this vital and life changing work by making a gift designated towards one of the special funds that have been established.

The Jim Johnston Fund

The James G. Johnston Fund for the Uninsured was created in 2002 to help cover the costs associated with serving the mental health needs of uninsured and underinsured clients of Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca.  This fund is crucial in providing our most vulnerable clients with the care they need, regardless of personal financial circumstance.

Spero Family Fund for Child Psychology

The Spero Family Fund for Child Psychiatry is a fund established in order to bring child psychiatry services to the agency, and ensure that our community can retain this essential resource for children now and into the future.

“We lived through the devastation of having one of our children become mentally ill. This is a tragedy that often tears families apart. We were fortunate enough to find support that helped us deal with many problems and even become a stronger family. As a result of this first-hand experience, we understand and appreciate the wonderful work that the staff of Family & Children’s Service are doing every day, year after year.”

Greg Eells Memorial Fund

The Greg Eells Memorial Fund was established in memory of Greg Eells, to support the work of Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca by providing wellness support and continuing education opportunities to staff.
