Reinterpreting Resistance: Supporting Clients in Unsafe Domestic Violence Enviornments

Info

This workshop is presented by Maia Campbell, LMSW, Clinical Trauma Therapist, and Domestic Violence Educator Naomi Barry of the Advocacy Center of Tompkins County.

In this workshop participants will build an understanding of why survivors may remain in abusive relationships and identify strategies to practice client-centered, trauma-informed care. Participants will learn common barriers to leaving an abusive relationship, learn how clients’ survival strategies may be misidentified as resistance in therapy, explore the impact of clinician’s power and privilege within the therapeutic alliance, and identify the principles of trauma-informed care.

This workshop will provide 1.5 CEU credits for LMSWs, LMHCs, LMFTs, and Psychologists.
