Group Therapy

For many the thought of gathering with people and naming out loud the particular struggles they are going through can be new, exciting, validating, supportive, uncomfortable or scary.

At Family & Children’s we provide skilled therapists who are helpful in creating safety within a group, which means you can express yourself without fear of judgement. After a few sessions of seeing the same faces, our natural human instinct to relate gives group members the comfort and courage to connect with others. Group Therapy provides a space where you will feel not as alone or different, as you are able to interact with others who can provide supportive feedback.

Participants will have this opportunity to utilize the hive mind to work through common problems and learn more about resources and resiliency factors in their healing process. Welcome to all levels of comfortability and experiences, group therapy is shown to be as effective as individual therapy for many conditions including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, trauma and relational issues.

Group Therapy programs run for 8-weeks, with weekly sessions, covering topics including trauma-focused therapy, relational therapy, skill-building groups for managing your mental health, and parent support groups.

Winter/Spring 2023 Group Therapy topics include:

Mindful Parenting Group

Mondays at Noon, Starting 1/23/23

In this process oriented group, members will explore assumptions, philosophies, and family of origin experiences around parenting that influence how they parent today. Group members will learn elements of mindfulness to support their parenting throughout the week and will share experiences within a safe space. This group will be largely structured around the needs of the group members involved. All parents/caregivers are welcome, whether you have practiced mindfulness before, have specific parenting challenges you would like to address, or would just like general parenting support. This group will equip parents/caregivers with education around developmental stages, how to intuit what your child’s behaviors are communicating to you, and provide a validating space to support one another. This group will meet weekly for one hour over 8 weeks.

Self-Compassion Group

Mondays at 5PM, Starting 1/23/23

This group is for individuals who wish to develop more compassion for themselves. At the start of the New Year we tend to focus on changes we would like to make or intentions we would like to set. The catalyst for these changes is self-compassion. If you’re curious about making sustainable changes or simply learning to meet yourself where you’re at in a kind, non-judgmental way, this may be the group for you. This 8 week psychotherapeutic group will cover a range of topics including: the components of self-compassion, self-compassion exercises, and practical implementation. There will be room for process oriented work within this group around reflections regarding self-compassion that you bring to the group. This will be an interactive space where participants will share, and provide and receive support from other members. Group sessions will be held weekly for one hour each. This group is open to all adults. The group will equip participants with knowledge about self-compassion, exercises for their own practice outside of group and increased awareness of how self-compassion can improve other areas of their life.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Group

Wednesdays at 5p, Starting 1/25/23

Internal Family Systems is a model of therapy that combines two existing paradigms – systems thinking and the multiplicity of the mind – with the concept of Self leadership. This group will use the IFS model of therapy to guide the group process and experience, and will rely heavily on experiential practices lead by the group facilitator as well as participation of group members.

In this IFS group we will practice embodying Self energy and learn to identify parts of our internal system. We will practice mapping our family of parts to understand the relationships within – what activates certain parts and which parts work in alliance or in opposition to other parts.

The IFS group is an ongoing therapy group that will run in 8 week segments. At the end of every 8 weeks members can choose to continue or not and the group will open for new members to join.

Cultivating Resilience Group

Thursdays at Noon, Starting 2/2/23

The definition of resilience is “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.” This 8-week group will cover a range of topics including core concepts, basic needs, goal setting, the mind-body connection, emotional regulation, relational dynamics and coping skills. This is an interactive process oriented group in which participants will share experiences from their own life as we review the fundamentals of mental health. All levels of experience are welcome, including those who are new to therapy or returning to therapy. This group will equip participants with useful tools to enhance their self-care practice in managing their mental health and cultivating resilience. This group will meet weekly for one hour over 8 weeks.

Anxiety Group

Mondays at Noon, Starting 2/6/23

This group is for individuals who wish to understand and manage their anxiety more efficiently. This 8 week psychotherapeutic group will cover a range of topics including; causes of anxiety, identifying anxiety triggers, mind-body connection and anxiety management strategies. There will be room for process oriented work within this group around factors/situations that impact level of anxiety that you bring to the group. The focus will be on any and all experiences with anxiety. This will be an interactive space where participants will share, and provide and receive support from other members. Group sessions will be held weekly for one hour each. This group is open to all adults. The group will equip participants with strategies to identify and manage anxiety, understand where the anxiety is coming from and what coping strategies work best for their anxiety.

Boundary Bootcamp

Wednesdays at 12PM Starting on 2/22/23

This group is for individuals who wish to learn more about creating, setting and maintaining boundaries. This 6 week psychoeducational and process oriented virtual group will focus on types/categories of boundaries, how family of origin and society play a role, strategies to implement boundaries that align with your desires, and time to workshop specific scenarios as a group. Each session will be an hour long. This will be an interactive space for people to share experiences with and support one another. This group is open to anyone looking to explore their relationship with boundaries further. This group will help participants develop deeper insight into their own boundaries and equip them with strategies to implement and maintain boundaries within self and relationships.
