IRA Rollover Gifts

As a registered 501(c)(3) entity, the Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca is a qualified charitable entity and able to accept gifts directly from individual retirement accounts (IRAs) as permitted by Sec. 408(d)(8) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended in 2015.

Information for Directing IRA Rollover Distributions

You should request that your plan administrator mail your distribution to the following address:

NOTE: Your IRA administrator may have an available form for your use in such requests. If not, here’s a sample that you can use.

Information for Directing IRA Rollover Distributions

  • You must be at least 70 ½ years of age
  • You may distribute up to $100,000 – which will count toward any required minimum distribution
  • Charitable distributions must be made directly from your IRA trustee/administrator to the qualifying charity
  • Distributions must be outright gifts – no material benefits can be received by the donor in exchange for their donation
  • IRA charitable rollover gifts may not be used to create income-producing vehicles (e.g., Charitable trusts/Gift annuities)
  • Only gifts from an IRA are included in this legislation – gifts from 401(k), 403(b) or 457 plans are not permitted
  • Checks should be made out to: Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca
